SUNDAY (POEM ON THE BLEACHERS)
YOUNGSEO LEE
mitski says: o god i’m so
lonely / meaning the clouds fall into walls, fortress around us so that when we look up is understood an infinite z-axis, no matter how hard the clouds try to be captors and there is a great grief in failing at violence. here, i am five pins dropped / five baby birds counting trees already flailed by darkness before it reaches their own, these motherless nests. and i almost killed time today. held it by the ankles over a ledge. but i let it go and i don’t want you to know how murderous i wanted to be. yesterday i walked into a richard serra and cried with my hands hovering over the steel because a maple so redly parsed into the sky. it’s a joke, the sun draining itself and taking my heartbeat with it. god. sudden open spaces and the choke time pinned through my chest. o god. and tucked neatly in a dear baby diary, your diagnosis. i’m sorry i cried more than the baby. that i called just to say i told the therapist all about you. that i came all the way here to be like this. wondering if this is hell. finding it’s just new jersey. so what do we share and refuse to sympathize with. on sundays i walk with a fist. today i climb and wait for the dark, scattered in the bleachers. all this passing under the wall of clouds. o god / dear baby / somehow i still believe up here that only i need to be carried off the ground |
